Judging a Book by its Cover

They say don't judge a book by its cover, but the truth is sometimes I am guilty of doing it. The thing is I absolutely love book covers and I think they matter a great deal. So in the spirit of judging a book by its cover, here are some cool book covers.

If like me you love book covers, then you have to check out the Book Cover Archive. They have some pretty amazing book covers.

  1. ONe of my recent favorites is the cover of Wizard of the Crow by Ngugi. But you know, fabulous covers of African literature is a recent development. The covers of the African Writers Series are mostly horrendous.

  2. I always judge books by their covers! Two of my most recently acquired favorites, The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill and Conversations With Myself by Nelson Mandela.

  3. You are right, there used to be some horrendous ones. I'm really glad they are getting better. I think it will also give people not familiar with African literature more incentive to pick it up and hopefully read.

  4. I nearly got The Book of Negroes the other day but I wasn't sure so I put it back.

  5. I don't know what Kinna is talking about there, those AWS covers, so lovely ;) heh. Joking of course, I agree they are often pretty terrible. Newer African lit, however, often has gorgeous covers!
